  • ( April 16,1821-August 13, 1900)
  • Built Central Specific Railroad as part of the U.S transconteintal railroads
  • Helped lead and develope other mmajor state lines such as Southern Pacific Railroad and the Chesapeake and Ohio railway,withhe was recruited to help complete
  • Had a city named after him in Virginia
  • He was responsible for the C&O's Peninsula Extention in 1881-82 which opened a pathway for West Virginia bitumious coal to reach a new coal piers on the harbor of Hampton roads for export shipping
  • Also credited with Newport Shipbuilding and Drydock Company, as well as the incorporation os Newport News, Virginia as an independent city
  • Born in Harwinton,Connecticut,USA

Collis Huntington
· Son of William and Elizabeth (Vincent) Huntington
· Faced poverty as a young child
· Early in 1852 the Huntington, Hammond and Schultz partnership was dissolved profitably for all concerned. Huntington built a two story brick store at 54 K Street in Sacramento and Elizabeth and he moved into the second floor.
· The business was doing great
· On November 2, 1852, however, fire ravaged Sacramento's business district and the Huntington store along with most of its stock was destroyed
· As soon as Collis got his business back in order Sacromento flooded and brought him back to where he started
